Thank you for taking the time to visit our studio. Here’s a recap of what we shared with you and some additional project and thought leadership materials we thought might be of interest.
If there’s anything else we can help you with, now or in the future, or if you need any further information at all, please do get in touch.

Make is a different kind of architecture practice. Motivated by imaginative design, we deliver spaces that inspire people and transform lives. Founded in 2004 by Ken Shuttleworth, we have teams in London, Hong Kong, Sydney and Shanghai providing architecture, interior and urban design services from concept to completion. We’re committed to resilient placemaking that creates social value for all.

Jason Parker Workplace
Make’s post-pandemic, future-focused workplace schemes go beyond people sitting at computers. Our designs harmonise cross-sector learning to create schemes that support happier, healthier employees, greener cities and towns, and better-connected communities. Tomorrow’s office buildings can help us create change for the good of all. From cutting-edge sustainable design to active placemaking, the workplace can help humans, nature and the economy to thrive.

Simon Robins Residential, Build-To-Rent
Make has designed and delivered a wide range of award-winning residential schemes, from retrofit projects through to large-scale masterplans. We're currently exploring how we can use shared living spaces to diversify the market, with a focus on family homes in prime urban locations – homes that are welcoming and affordable, offer security and wellbeing, and unite a range of generations, incomes and tenures.

Oliver Hall Innovation Neighbourhood and carbon
We understand that every project is different, so we tailor our designs according to client needs and what's best for the site. We've benchmarked our embodied carbon across all large projects, these comparisons allow us to show what works and what doesn’t, as well as highlight key areas of design that can get overlooked. This approach allows us to define specific research to support clients, particularly for the construction and design of facade systems, which present a clear area for improvement – not just within Make but across the industry.

Suits and Suites
Over the past six months, Make and Gleeds have been discussing the potential fusion of the hotel and office sectors in different forms – for example, hospitality lobbies in office buildings or co-working floors in hotels. The discussion culminated in a roundtable with industry experts from CO–RE, Google, Accor and more. The aim of the roundtable was to explore the ways workplace and hospitality can benefit one another.
A grand hotel for Sydney Capella Sydney
Capella Sydney transforms an iconic listed building in the heart of Sydney into a world-class 5-star hotel. The first Australian property for the Capella Hotel Group, the former government building now welcomes the public in for the first time.
Originally designed by renowned Scottish-Australian architect George McRae (Sydney Town Hall, the Queen Victoria Building) for the New South Wales government, the listed building on this site dates back to 1912 and was constructed in 2 halves approximately 15 years apart: the northern half for the Department of Education, the southern half for the Department of Agriculture. Located 400m from Sydney Harbour and taking up an entire block in the CBD, the building features an Edwardian Baroque-style sandstone facade and stands as a reminder of Sydney’s grand architectural heritage, which endures alongside surrounding skyscrapers.
Our brief was to retain as much of the original heritage fabric as possible while transforming the building into a world-class luxury hotel, setting a new benchmark for hospitality in Australia with the Capella Hotel Group’s first Australian offer. In collaboration with Aspect Studios, we’ve also transformed the adjacent Farrer Place outside the front entrance with new paving, greenery and seating that re-establishes it as a pivotal city square and engages the site with the wider city. BAR Studio delivered the interior design, which embraces the existing built fabric while creating a counterpoint to the once-utilitarian interiors.
